The South Carolina highlands
Towering majestically over the rolling hills of the Piedmont, the Blue Ridge Mountains inspire every nature lover. The Cherokee Indians already called the imposing mountain range “blue hills of God”. The foothills and rugged mountains of the Blue Ridge region have contributed to the development of this economically and geographically diverse region of South Carolina. Greenville
The city of Greenville is located in northwestern South Carolina and is also the county seat of the Greenville County of the same name. It is in the heart of the upcountry and is known as the “Textile Center of the World”. Here you will find great shopping, entertainment and historical and scenic attractions. The beautiful city center with its old streets and historic houses is particularly worth seeing. Further attractions are the “Falls Park on the Reedy”, which delights with its numerous waterfalls, the “Greenville County Museum of Art”, “Bob Jones University Museum and Gallery” and the “Roper Mountain Science Center”.
Clemson
Known as one of the most beautiful places in the state, Clemson is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the shores of Lake Hartwell. Clemson is also home to Clemson University and Clemson Blue Cheese, a state botanical garden with numerous historical monuments. There are also many buildings and places in the city that have been included in the National Register of Historic Places. These include the University Historic District I and II with the “Clemson College Sheep Barn”, the “Fort Hill” with the “John C. Calhoun Mansion and Library”, the “Hanover House”, the “Old Stone Church” with its cemetery and the “JC Stribling Barn”. Clemson University is also home to the South Carolina Botanical Garden.
Seneca
The city of Seneca is located in Oconee County at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is also the largest city in Oconee County. It was founded at the beginning of the 19th century and is nicknamed the “City of Smiles”. There are a variety of historic buildings and districts in and around Seneca that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Seneca Historic District, the Ram Cat Alley Historic District, and the Newry Historic District. Ram Cat Alley has many unique shops and restaurants for visitors, and the Seneca Historic District is home to the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. We also recommend a detour to High Falls County Park and South Cove County Park and you should definitely eat at Little Pig’s BBQ or Rudy’.
