History

The New Hampshire coast was explored by S. de Champlain in 1603 and 1605. Settled mainly from Massachusetts and Connecticut since 1623, New Hampshire became an owner colony in 1629 and, after a period of dependence on Massachusetts, an independent British crown colony in 1679. After the conflict with the Indians ended, strong immigration began around 1725. In the course of the independence movement, New Hampshire was the first of the British colonies to depose the royal governor and form a government. As the 9th founding state, it ratified the American Federal Constitution on June 21, 1788, which came into force.
