History
The area, populated by various groups of the Algonquin and the warlike Indian tribe of the Susquehannock, was visited in 1608 by the English captain J. Smith. In 1631 the first English trading post was established on Kent Island. In 1632 Cecil (ius) Calvert Lord Baltimore (* around 1605, † 1675) received a charter from King Charles I of England for a colony on the Potomac, which was named Maryland in honor of the English Queen. Under the leadership of Leonard Calvert, the younger brother of C. Calvert and first governor (1634–47) of Maryland, the first around 200 settlers arrived here on March 25, 1634 and founded Saint Mary’s City (first capital). As Roman Catholic owners with a patent from an Anglican king, the Calvert family was forced to grant extensive religious freedom, which was set out in the Act of 1649 in the Act Concerning Religion. Disputes arose again and again with the neighboring colonies of Virginia and Pennsylvania. In 1692 Maryland became a crown colony (since 1694 capital Annapolis) with an Anglican state church, in 1715 the Calvert family got their rights back after converting to Anglicanism. Baltimore was founded in 1729. In November 1776, Maryland adopted its first constitution (extinction of the rights of the Calvert family). In the Revolutionary War on the side of the patriots, Maryland did not accept the Articles of Confederation until 1781 and joined the Union on April 28, 1788 as the 7th state. During the war of secession, it was part of the Union, initially without abolishing slavery (which only happened with the third constitution in 1864).

Greenbelt Park
Greenbelt Park is part of the American town of Greenbelt located in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Administered by the National Park Service (NPS), this forest park is only about 10 miles northeast of Washington, DC. The park is located near the Capital Beltway, which borders it to the northeast.
The park is crossed by several kilometers of interesting walking, cycling and horse-riding trails, several shorter nature trails, you will find many places for camping and also three areas suitable for picnics. The park also includes Lake Greenbelt and a golf club. Greenbelt Park is a popular destination not only for nature lovers, but also for sports-minded individuals, so it is worth spending more than one day here. Although the park is only a short distance from the capital, many species of wild animals have found their refuge here and rare species of plants are also found here. The solitude and peace here is a balm not only for the human soul.
The park is open to visitors all year round, its advantage is easy accessibility and the main advantages include the security it provides. It is possible to stay in local campsites for about 16 dollars per night. However, you must have cash with you, card payments cannot be accepted.
