Geography

The larger, eastern part of Oregon belongs to the steppe-like Columbiaplateau (including Harney Basin). The west traverse the Cascade Range (Mount Hood 3,424 m above sea level), in which the Crater Lake is located, and the Coast Ranges. Between these two mountain ranges extends the broad, tectonically created depression of the Willamette River, which is separated from the California long valley by the Klamath Mountains. The Cascade Range is a climatic divide: in the west the climate is mild and humid, in the east it is dry and characterized by strong temperature fluctuations.
