Northern Kentucky
In northern Kentucky, visitors can look forward to spectacular scenery and historic sites. In Big Bone Lick State Park near Carrollton, numerous fossilized remains of the mammoths that once lived here can be found. In Owenton, try the fabulous wines from Elk Creek Vineyards. Time travel should spend a night in Grant County in an authentic log cabin from 1850 or take a costumed tour of the 200-year-old village of Old Washington, lined with log cabins from the 18th century. The MainStrasse Village in Covington or the world-famous Newport Aquarium in Newport are also worth seeing. A dream for (amateur) photographers is Flemingsburg, the “Official Covered Bridge Capital of Kentucky”
Maysville
The small town of Maysville is located at the confluence of the Ohio River and Limestone Creek in northeast Kentucky. It is located in Mason County and is also its administrative seat. The river port city was originally founded under the name Limestone in 1780. A few years later it was renamed Maysville after the wealthy attorney John May. Particularly worth seeing in Maysville are the “Russell Theater”, the “County Courthouse”, the “Maysville Floodwall Mural Project”, “Mefford’s Fort” in Old Washington and the landing point of the ship “Mississippi Queen”. We also recommend an “underground railroad” tour and a riverboat ride.
Covington
Covington is a city in Kenton County and one of the most populous in Kentucky. It is located at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers. Covington was founded in 1814 by John Gano, Thomas Carneal and Richard Gano. In 1862 the company “Stewart Iron Works” was founded in Covington. But today Covington is best known for the picture-perfect “MainStrasse Village”. The “MainStrasse Village”, modeled on a German village, was built with a lot of love and is one of the most popular tourist attractions. Here you will find excellent dining options, excellent shopping opportunities and a large number of restored historic houses.
Carrollton
Carrollton is a city in Carroll County, located at the confluence of the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. It was founded in 1794 and was originally known as Port William. Carrollton is home to one of Kentucky’s premier state parks, General Butler State Resort Park. The heart of the park is the Butler-Turpin State Historic House, which towers majestically over the beautiful park. Also worth seeing in Carrollton are the Kentucky Veterans Memorial, the Masterson House and the Old Stone Jail.
