Schema – Social Psychology
In psychology, schema is a set of thoughts one has about something, such as one’s self, another person or an event. Forms are often brought to life by points of reference included in the form. An example of a form is when you see in the hospital a person in white coat and automatically think “doctor”.
Activation of a form means that the understanding takes place faster and based on limited information, but the disadvantage is that the understanding can to a large extent become a product of one’s own thinking (” top-down ” thinking).
Social psychology, especially social cognition, operates with various forms, such as personal forms, self-forms and role forms.
Forms that include a typical action and interaction with others are often called a “script”. Some examples of script might be greeting someone or ordering food at a restaurant.
