Occupational Psychology

Work psychology is a discipline within psychology that examines the importance of psychological factors for work-related issues.

A central theme in work psychology is how organizations, through recruitment and selection, can hire the right employees, and how management and follow-up of employees can promote mastery, job satisfaction and motivation. Researchers and practitioners in the field are concerned about what contributes to a well-functioning work environment with good conditions for participation, collaboration and competence development. Furthermore, people are concerned about how stress, stress and conflicts in the workplace should be handled.

Occupational psychology is also about the connections between individual differences and behavior in the workplace, such as how personality influences career choices. Relevant fields of work are also career guidance and counseling in connection with restructuring as a result of redundancy, illness or injury.

The field of study is closely related to organizational psychology, and is often referred to as the term work and organizational psychology.

El Malpais National Monument

The landscape in western New Mexico is marked by the Bandera Volcano eruption, which occurred more than 10,000 years ago. During the eruption, hot lava flowed out of the crater and created an extensive lava field extending for 23 miles. In 1987, El Malpais National Park was declared here to protect this interesting site.

The main attraction of the park is of course the Bandera Volcano, which is accessible to visitors. You can reach it by following a gravel path leading from the small visitor center. The journey takes only about 15 minutes, the ascent is not difficult. From a safety point of view, you are not allowed up to the very edge of the crater, but you will still get a good view of the surrounding landscape.

Another attraction of the park is the nearby ice cave, or rather a cavity in the lava field, which was created by the collapse of the tunnel ceiling. Because of this cave, the whole landscape is sometimes called The Land of Fire & Ice. Even though the surface is unbearably hot, inside the cave is -0.556 degrees Celsius year round. That’s why the ice floes can stay there. You can get inside the cave by a wooden staircase. You will feel the temperature drop deeper and deeper with each step. The ice has a greenish color, which is caused by a special arctic algae that can survive in such icy conditions. Until 1946, the local ice was mined, today its layer is slowly increasing again.

On the opposite side of the monument are sandstone walls and you will also find one of the largest rock arches in New Mexico – La Ventana Arch. Its arc spans a respectable 36 meters. The preserved volcanic cone, ice cave and sandstone gates are the main attractions of this park, otherwise the landscape is covered only with lava fields. The place is thus particularly attractive to geologists and volcanology enthusiasts.
