Princeton
Princeton [ pr ɪ nstən], a university town in New Jersey, USA, near the capital, Trenton, 30 100 residents; Science center with Princeton University, Institute for Advanced Study and others Research institutions, theological seminar, conservatory, theater; chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Nassau Hall, a Renaissance building from 1756, is the oldest university building and the meeting place for the 1783 Continental Congress. Yamasaki Minoru built the Woodrow Wilson School of Political Science in 1965. A. Einstein most recently worked at the Institute for Advanced Study.
Princeton was in 1696 as Stony Brook [ stə ʊ n ɪ br ʊ founded k] by English Quakers (1724 in Prince’s Town [ pr ɪ ns ɪ z ta ʊ n] renamed since 1813 present name). Until the relocation (1756) of the later University of Newark, Princeton was only a small rest stop.
On January 3, 1777, G. Washington’s troops defeated the British forces near Princeton. The Continental Congress met here from June 30th to November 4th 1783.
