New York Bay

New York Bay [ nju ː j ɔ ː k be ɪ ], the estuary of the Hudson River, USA. Between the city of New York and the state of New Jersey, the Hudson River widens to the bay-rich upper New York Bay (Upper New York Bay); this is where the Liberty Island (with the Statue of Liberty) and Ellis Island (the restored former checkpoint for immigrants has been the National Immigration Museum since 1990) as well as the extensive facilities of the port of New York (in Brooklyn, Manhattan and also in New Jersey; the shoreline of the port facility measures a total of 1,200 km). At 1.5 km wide flow constriction (The Narrows) between Long Iceland and Staten Iceland, since 1964, spanned by the two-storey Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, the lower New York Bay closes (Lower New York Bay), which in the Atlantic transforms.

Columbia University
