Jersey City

Jersey City was founded around 1630 as a Dutch trading post (Paulus Hook, current name from 1836); Permanently settled since around 1650, British since 1664.


Paterson [ pætəsn], an industrial city in New Jersey, USA, northwest of New York 150 800 residents; catholic bishopric; Textile factories, machine and engine construction, chemical and electronic industry.

Paterson was founded shortly after the War of Independence because of the water power (waterfalls) available as a settlement with several textile factories and named after William Paterson (* 1719, † 1806), one of the authors of the American constitution.
