Dollywood

The amusement park “Dollywood” is located in the small town of Pigeon Forge under the direction of the namesake and country musician Dolly Parton and the Herschend Family Entertainment. The park was originally founded in 1961 under the name “Rebel Railroad” and when it reopened in 1986, it was renamed “Dollywood”. The park has ten different themed areas with exciting attractions and highlights including the steel roller coaster “Mystery Mine” and the wooden roller coaster “Thunderhead”. In addition to numerous rides, Dollywood is also home to the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame. Numerous festivals and events take place regularly in the popular amusement park, which provide additional entertainment.

Elvis Museum

The “Elvis Museum” is located in Pigeon Forge and is said to be the “world’s largest private collection of Elvis memorabilia”. The founder of the museum is Mike L. Moon, a passionate Elvis fan who opened the museum two years after Presley’s death in 1977. His passion for collecting began in 1971 when Moon received a black leather belt from Elvis. Today you can see an extensive collection of original memorabilia and artefacts from Presley’s life in the lovingly designed museum, including the King’s last limousine and the “Honeymoon Cadillac” that Presley bought in 1967 during his honeymoon with his bride Priscilla in Palm Springs. Clothing, jewelry, accessories and musical instruments are also on display,

Elvis Presley’s Graceland

Graceland is a white mansion in Memphis that was the home of Elvis Presley. The magnificent home was built in 1939 and Presley moved in in the late 1950’s. Presley lived at Graceland until his death in 1977. His grave, like that of his parents and grandmother, is on the property, in the so-called “Meditation Garden”. Graceland has been open to the public since 1982 and has delighted more than 600,000 visitors and fans every year, for whom the “Graceland” property is a true place of pilgrimage. You have the opportunity to explore the house and the property by means of an audio tour. Here you can see the living rooms, the kitchen and the cellar with a bar and a billiard and TV room. Also worth seeing is the “Jungle Room” on the ground floor, where Elvis recorded his last two albums. The upper floor is used privately and is therefore not open to the public. In another building, however, the Presley car collection can be viewed, as well as his aircraft “Hound Dog II” and “Lisa Marie”. In another house all trophies and awards, as well as platinum and gold records, which he has received during his career are exhibited. You can also see photographs, stage costumes and many other memorabilia from the fascinating life of “fabulous Elvis”. Graceland was recognized as a National Historic Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Chattanooga

Chattanooga is another major city in the state in southeast Tennessee. It occupies fourth place with an area of 370.8 km² and around 178,000 residents. The city is also on the Tennessee River and also close to the border with the neighboring state of Georgia.

Chattanooga was founded in 1816 before Memphis. Several battles were fought near the city during the American Civil War. The Battle of Chattanooga took place in November 1863.

During the 20th century, Chattanooga became an important industrial location, which is why the city was affected by high levels of industrial pollution. In the meantime, however, this has largely subsided.

Chattanooga is also an important rail hub in the region, although passenger traffic has ceased and the historic train station has been closed. However, this was converted into a hotel, so that you can now spend the night in the former railway wagons.
