Meridian

The “Queen City” meridian is located in Lauderdale County and is the fifth largest city in Mississippi. Meridian is also known as “Sowashee Station” or “Ragsdale City”. It was first settled in 1831 but was not officially founded until 1854. Today Meridian is best known for its large number of historical buildings. Art and cultural organizations are also strongly represented in the city. Starkville is a city in Oktibbeha County and its county seat. It was originally called “Boardtown” but when it was officially founded in 1835, it was renamed Starkville after General John Stark. African American Military History Museum

The African American Military History Museum, also known as the East Sixth Street USO Building, was established in 1942 as a USO club for African American soldiers stationed at Camp Shelby. The museum building is located in Hattiesburg and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum shows artifacts from the Second World War, various uniforms, historical documents and photographs in various exhibitions.

Jefferson Davis Home

The Jefferson Davis Home, also known as the Beauvoir Plantation, is an important historic post-war home where Southern President Jefferson Davis lived. It was built in Biloxi in 1848 and declared a National Historic Landmark a few years ago and added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today it serves as a historical house museum in which, among other things, a biography of Davis is shown and various, partly original artifacts and furnishings are exhibited by him.
