Geography
In the northern part, Arizona has a share of the Colorado Plateau with the deeply cut Grand Canyon and the Petrified Forest National Park. Numerous basins separated by mountain ranges connect to the south with steep steps. The climate is hot and very dry, so steppes and desert steppes predominate (65% of the national area); only the higher, humid mountains are forested. The magnificence of the landscape (e.g. Grand Canyon), peculiar desert vegetation (including giant cactus) and prehistoric Indian buildings were the reason for the establishment of landscape protection areas (tourism). The Meteor Crater is located in Arizona.
