Carnton Plantation
The “Carnton Plantation” is located in Franklin and is a historic plantation house that now serves as a museum. The farm and all of its adjoining buildings played an important role in the Battle of Franklin during the American Civil War. The “Carnton Plantation” was built in 1825 and was also the setting for the novel “The Widow of the South” by Robert Hicks. During the civil war, wounded soldiers were operated on and cared for here. The blood that seeped into the wooden floors can still be seen today. Since the “Carnton Plantation” played a very important role in Franklin’s history, it is now one of the most prestigious open-air museums in the region. Actors regularly recreate scenes from the war and life on the plantation in great detail, and guided tours as well as “ghost tours” are offered on selected dates. The historic “Carnton Plantation” has also been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
Chasing rainbows
The Chasing Rainbows Museum is located in Pigeon Forge in the Dollywood theme park. The museum is fully dedicated to Tennessee-born world-famous country musician Dolly Parton. The original museum opened in 1996 as the “Silver Screen Cafe” and is the second museum in “Dollywood” dedicated to the musician. You can see all the memorabilia from the life of the Dolly Parton, such as numerous photographs, pieces of clothing, a replica of her parents’ house, handwritten texts and many multimedia exhibitions, as well as her former tour bus, which is right in front of the museum.
Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art
“Cheekwood” is 220,000 square meters of private property on the west end of Nashville that is home to the popular tourist attraction “Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art”. For many years, the magnificent and elegant mansion from 1929 served as the residence of the respected Cheek family. Since 1960 the property has functioned as a museum complex with a huge botanical garden and an art museum. The museum’s art collection dates back to 1959, when it was still called the Nashville Museum of Art. Today the museum has an amazing collection of more than 600 paintings and 5,000 prints, drawings and photographs. On the “Carrell Woodland Sculpture Trail” you can also discover contemporary art based on 15 sculptures by international artists. The botanical garden, which is divided into many individual themed gardens, is just as amazing. For example, you can visit a Japanese garden, a herb garden, a water garden or an award-winning wildflower garden.
