Road trip – for those who appreciate the freedom of being able to drive themselves but at the same time want the hotel to be booked when you arrive. After exploring Kuala Lumpur, admiring the beautiful Taman Negara National Park and seeing the turtles at the Rantau Abang Turtle Reserve, it’s time to relax in the Perhentian Islands. Beautiful islands known for having nice beaches and clear waters perfect for snorkeling and diving.

Day 1: Departure from Scandinavia

Today you are traveling from home on your way to Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur

Day 2: Arrival in Kuala Lumpur

You will be picked up at the airport and driven to your hotel where you can relax and unwind after a long flight. ( F )

Day 3: Kuala Lumpur on your own

Enjoy the morning at the hotel with a good breakfast before setting out to explore the city. We recommend that you immerse yourself in the city’s architecture. Do not miss the National Mosque and the city’s old railway station, which are two amazing buildings. In the evening you can go and see the beautiful fountain Lake Symphony. ( F )

Day 4: Pick up car and travel to Kuala Tahan

The car is delivered to the hotel at 09:00, so there is time to have breakfast before you leave. Today’s destination is Kuala Tahan and the estimated driving time is about four hours. Along the way, you can stop at the Batu Caves, which house a Hindu temple and a giant statue. 272 steps up there is a viewing platform where you can go if you want to see the city skyline. It is also a good idea to park for a while at Kuala Annie Bergh’s elephant center, where you can learn about the facility’s work to protect the elephants in Malaysia. ( F )

Day 5: Taman Negara

Today you can explore one of the world’s oldest rainforests, Taman Negara. This is based on hikes of varying difficulty, from short walks of about 30 minutes, to hikes that take up to four hours to complete. You can walk up to a suspension bridge in the treetops or try a night hike. There is every opportunity to see exciting animals in the area, even from special lookout points. ( F )

Day 6: Drive to the coastal town of Cherating

The goal for today’s drive is Cherating and the estimated driving time is about three hours. On the way you can visit the city of Kuantan and in the charming fishing village of Beserah. ( F )

Day 7: Drive to Kuala Trengganu

Estimated driving time today is three hours. Kuala Trengganu is a charming coastal town with a peaceful atmosphere on the narrow streets. During the season, which runs from June to September, it is possible to see when sea turtles lay eggs on the beach. On the way here you can stop in the old mining town of Dungun and at Rantau Abang’s information center which can tell you more about the turtles. ( F )

Day 8: Drive to Kota Bharu

Estimated driving time is about three hours. We recommend that you pass Pulau Duyung on the way, a small island that you can go to by ferry or car. The island is especially popular for its fishing boats that are built here. They use old craft traditions and also build traditional houses in the Malaysian style. The fishing village of Pantai Penarik is also worth exploring. ( F )

Day 9: The Perhentian Islands

Your car is left in Kuala Besut where the ferry goes out to the Perhentian Islands. After checking in at your resort, you can look forward to wonderful relaxation in the next few days. ( F )

Day 10-14: The Perhentian Islands

The Perhentian Islands consist of two islands: Kecil (“the little one”) and Besaro (“the big one”). These are real paradise islands with crystal clear sea and beautiful reefs that are home to turtles, colorful fish and sometimes even sharks. The white sand invites to an unpretentious beach slope. The islands are covered with jungle and there are no roads, only paths. You can get a diving certificate and of course also snorkel and explore the sea at your own pace. ( F )

Day 15: Departure from Perhentian

Today you travel by ferry to the mainland where the return journey begins from Kota Bharu Airport. ( F )
