After a soft landing in the beach town of Negombo, the journey continues to the ancient capital Kandy, beautifully situated in the highlands and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the cool highlands, it heads towards Tissamaharama and Yala National Park where you go on safari and can see peacocks, elephants, crocodiles and – with a little luck – leopards.
The trip ends with relaxation on the south coast of Sri Lanka and the beautiful beach of Mirissa.
Day 1: Departure from Scandinavia
You fly from Scandinavia to Sri Lanka and arrive the next day.
Day 2: Arrival in Negombo
After landing at the airport you will be picked up by car and go to the hotel in Negombo. Then you have some time on your own.
Day 3: Negombo on your own
Spend the day as you please – you can either relax by the pool or explore the city. Negombo is one of Sri Lanka’s first resorts and is located about 35 kilometers north of Colombo. Long ago it was a significant trading town for Portuguese and Dutch, but today it is not the trade that attracts guests, but the beautiful beaches. Here you can both take part in city experiences and explore the genuine Sri Lanka. In addition, a wonderful beach slope and great excursion opportunities await. We can recommend a boat trip on the canals, or a visit to the local fish market. ( F )
Day 4: On to Kandy
The first stop of the day is made on a spice plantation where you can taste and smell exotic spices. After this you set off for Kandy, where the rest of the day is spent on your own. ( F )
Day 5: On your own in picturesque Kandy
Spend the day just the way you want. Kandy is a charming old kingdom located on a lake, surrounded by mountains, waterfalls and rainforest. Wander the idyllic streets, explore the bazaar and visit the city’s craft center. Also do not miss the “Tooth Temple” which according to legend houses a very sacred relic – the tooth of the Buddha. In the evening you can go and see a colorful performance with entertainment, music and magnificent costumes. ( F )
Day 6: Nice train ride to Ella
Today it takes off towards the train station where you hop on board the train and head off through Ella’s beautiful nature. The train journey lasts about six hours. Once in Ella, you spend the rest of the day as you please. If you are hungry for more experiences, we recommend an excursion to the Ravana waterfall. ( F )
Day 7: Ella to Yala
The journey goes from the highlands to Yala on the southeast coast of Sri Lanka. After a pleasant drive, it’s time for a moment of relaxation at the hotel before visiting the Kataragama Temple in the evening. It is a sacred pilgrimage destination for several religions. ( F )
Day 8: Safari in Yala – Yala National Park
After breakfast, have some free time before heading to Yala National Park. Yala is one of Sri Lanka’s largest nature reserves and extends over 979 km². Some parts are reminiscent of a dusty African savannah, while other places consist of dense and wild rainforest. During a jeep safari you can see elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, bears, antelopes, deer, wild boar and monkeys. Maybe you will also see elegant peacocks with magnificent plumage. They live in the wild only in India and Sri Lanka. ( F )
Day 9: Yala to Mirissa
Today you will be picked up at the hotel after breakfast to drive towards Mirissa. On arrival at Mirissa you do exactly what you want during the day. In the coming days, you can calmly digest the many impressions from your eventful holiday. Relax by the pool, sunbathe on the beach or explore the city. ( F )
Day 10-13: Mirissa with sun & bath
If you are feeling for an excursion one of these days, the town of Galle is a great option. Here you can see the old fortress or go whale watching. Various types of whales are hiding off the coast of Mirissa, not least the blue whale, which is the world’s largest animal. ( F )
Day 14: Return to Sweden
After an exciting holiday, it’s off to home. If you have time before your flight departs, you can treat yourself to a dip in the waves, or perhaps buy the last souvenirs. You will be picked up at the hotel and go to the airport at a time that suits your departure with your flight. ( F )
