Day 1: Departure from Scandinavia

The trip departs today towards Borneo and Kuching – Sarawak’s beautiful capital.

Day 2: Arrival in Kuching

You arrive today at Kuching and drive to your hotel where you can relax and get a good night’s sleep.

Day 3: City tour and cruise on the river in Sarawak

Sleep out or discover the area around your hotel before being picked up at 13.30 and start your city tour in Kuching. Among other things, you will pass the large cat statue, which is a landmark in the city. You continue through Chinatown and to one of the city’s largest temples, the Tua Pek King Temple. During the journey of discovery, you will also see traditional Malaysian houses built on stilts, a former palace that now serves as the governor’s residence, as well as the city’s museum. In the evening, a cruise on the river is arranged so that you can experience the city from the water. From here you can see the mix of historic buildings and modern architecture. ( F )

Day 4: Bako National Park

You will be picked up in the morning and driven to the fishing village of Bako. From here you take a boat half an hour along the river to get to Bako National Park. You check in at the night’s spartan accommodation and can explore the area, look for monkeys, bearded pigs or other animals. Once back at your guesthouse, dinner is served. ( F , L , M )

Day 5: The Iban people’s longhouse

After breakfast, return by boat and continue along the road to Batang AI. The driving time is about five hours and you make three planned breaks, including on pepper and cocoa plantations. From Batang Ai you take a boat to the longhouses, where in the afternoon you get an insight into how the locals live and work with their craft. After dinner there will be traditional dancing and you can taste the locally produced rice wine “tuak”. Accommodation in longhouses – note that the standard is very spartan. ( F , L , M )

Day 6: Go exploring in the area around the longhouses

After breakfast, it is demonstrated how the Iban people use blowpipes as weapons and then follows a guided jungle hike. You can learn how the plants in the area are used both as medicine and for handicrafts. Later in the day, return and enjoy the afternoon at a resort located in a quiet and scenic location. ( F , L )

Day 7: Back to Kuching

Today the trip goes back to Kuching where one night remains before you fly to Sabah. ( F )

Day 8: By flight to Kota Kinabalu

You will be picked up at your hotel, driven to the airport and from there fly to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. From the airport you get a shuttle to your hotel. ( F )

Day 9: Kiulu Valley – farmstay

Today the journey takes us towards the beautiful Kiulu Valley. On the way here you visit a local market and can enjoy the wonderful views along the way. On arrival in Mantob you will receive information about your farmstay, after which a good lunch will be served. In the afternoon it is time for a jungle hike and you get the chance to try knocking rubber out of the trees, and then take a cooling dip in the Kiulu River. After dinner you can talk to the locals about their history and traditions. ( F , L , M )

Day 10: On a quad bike in the local area

You are on an adventure on a quad bike and get to experience the fantastic nature, among wonderful valleys, rice fields, jungles and rural villages. You drive over small bridges, next to streams and through forests. After lunch you can enjoy a swim in the river or perhaps rent a bike and explore the countryside. ( F , L , M )

Day 11: Mount Kinabalu

You will be picked up early by car and driven to the foot of Mount Kinabalu (approximately 1,500 meters altitude). You make planned visits to a garden and to a training center. Note that the temperature can drop to 14 degrees here. ( F , L , M )

Day 12: Hiking on Mount Kinabalu

You start the day’s hike (lasts 4-6 hours) at the Timpohon Gate, where a mountain guide takes you up the mountain. Your accommodation is located at an altitude of 3,200 meters. The temperature is between 5 and 10 degrees. Please note that the guide can only speak basic English. ( F , L , M )

Day 13: Climb Mount Kinabalu

You get up at 03.00 at night and start your hike to the top which is at about 4,000 meters altitude. At the top you can enjoy the beautiful sunrise and take unforgettable pictures before heading down to the park’s headquarters and having a cup of tea and some food. Only in the afternoon do you drive back to Kota Kinabalu, where you will stay just outside the city in a waterfront resort. ( F , L )

Day 14-16: Relaxation at the resort by the water

For the next few days you can relax in a cozy hotel by the water. Swim in one of the resort’s pools, take a walk along the water or relax with a good book. ( F )

Day 17: Transfer to the airportYour holiday is coming to an end and you travel back to Sweden after a few eventful weeks.
