North Carolina Museum of History

The North Carolina Museum of History is located in downtown Raleigh. It was founded in 1902 under the name “Hall of History”. The history museum was founded by Frederick Augustus Olds, who began collecting historical and antique items from across the state in the late 19th century. The museum has a permanent exhibition on military history, decorative arts, the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and much more. An astonishing collection of more than 150,000 artifacts from six centuries is now in the “North Carolina Museum of History” and inspires many visitors every year.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is located in Raleigh and is the oldest museum in North Carolina and the largest of its kind in the Southeast. Its founding dates back to 1879. On four floors, the museum shows impressive exhibitions on the natural history of the state of North Carolina. On the first floor you can learn all about North Carolina’s natural treasures and the coast. On the second floor is the motto “from the mountains to the sea”; only so much can be revealed: you can see a waterfall and snapping turtles. The fourth floor provides information about prehistoric North Carolina and on the fourth floor you will encounter many living animals. But the best way to find out what exactly the museum has to offer is to simply visit it yourself.
