9 Axis Movement Sensors Will Provide Greater Precision of Movements to Our Android

The arrival of smartphones opened the door to features not even imagined in a phone. Today it is possible to position themselves on a map and know quickly where we go, or even perform certain actions such as change of song simply by shaking the device. All this is possible thanks to the motion sensors, also it have evolved over time.

First motion sensors were three-axis accelerometers, that allowed to recognize certain movements but with little accuracy. Then came the gyroscopes, that with six-axis they allowed a better recognition and more precision. It is now developing a chip that allows join the digital compass and gyroscope, It would add 9 axes, achieving greater precision and lower cost of manufacture.

These new sensors promise improve electromagnetic interference that hurts the measurements of the compass by compensating for it with the gyroscope, and improve the precision of accelerometer in sudden movements thanks to the other two sensors.

Are many utilities that can be given to this new development, such as for example managing the terminal, control movements in games, augmented reality and applications such as Google Sky Map or any GPS Navigator. Even so, its greatest virtue you may check in navigation within buildings, function which can be an improvement where there is no GPS signal.

These new chips, which fuse accelerometer, gyroscope and compass, are being developed by STMicro and InvenSense, and could apparently be available before year’s end.
